Before I bought Superior Drummer I recorded acoustic drums digital audio with no problems. I used WDM, buffers at 128, 24 bits, latency was 4.0. No crashes, no dropouts. I bought a Roland TD 20 and Superior Drummer, switched to ASIO and have not been able to record for long without crashing. I often get dropouts during playback using certain avatar kits. I have raised my buffer size, changed to 16 bit record and playback and done some other tweeking. I still have dropouts and am still trying to get everything straightened out. I’m still trying different things as time permits.
I have read in the forum that ASIO should be used for E Drums. Is ASIO better than WDM? If so then why is ASIO better than WDM for E Drums?
Sonar 6 Producer, Windows XP, Quad Duo, 7200, 4GB, Presonus Firepod
I went back to WDM driver and no dropouts so far, just a few pops and cracks. I guess my system just doesn’t like the ASIO driver.
ASIO gives much better results in general.
Have you checked if there are newer drivers available for your Firepod than what you are using?

John, yes I did download the latest Firepod driver but it didn’t change anything. Earlier today I was recording with my TD 20 using WDM driver and Sonar crashed after a few minutes. ASIO is worse, I get dropouts on certain kits in Superior Drummer. Forget about changing kits on the fly during play back. I’ve tried every variation that I know of to remedy so maybe my system just can’t handle Superior Drummer.
I’m not sure why you’re having problems but your computer specs look adequate enough for S2. I run S2 on 2 systems (both have 2GB of RAM). It runs great on my dual core Vista laptop running ASIO4ALL drivers with Reaper. I can get 64 sample buffer. I also have an ancient, but audio optimized, P4/XP for my studio work and I can also run S2 at 64 samples in Toontrack Solo with my RME soundcard. I can only get to 128 samples when running in Cubase 4 before drop outs.

Scott, I don’t understand either but I know there is an answer. It’s like chasing ghost’s. I checked latency with DPC Latency Checker and it showed no problems with latency.
