What is best practice for converting audio cymbals to midi cymbals in SD3? Should we record acoustic kit using a separate mic for hi hat, ride, and each crash cymbal etc.?
The drummer plays on an acoustic set. Can I get the same quality cymbal mix converting audio cymbals to SD3 midi as I could from the cymbals of an electronic drum kit? If so, what is best method. Thanks!!
Hi,
using the SD3 Tracker to convert recorded audio files into MIDI is never as easy as if you are recording MIDI directly from an E-kit, if that is what you are asking?
However, with separate microphones for each kit piece you wish to convert with Tracker, the easier it will be for you. I presume you record the separate microphones to separate tracks/files for loading in the SD3 Tracker.

Yes, there will be different tracks for each drum to load into SD3. My biggest concern was converting cymbals to midi/sd3. Will we be able to produce high quality cymbals in SD3 by recording separate cymbal tracks or are we wasting our time? Thanks.
The quality of the cymbals in Superior Drummer 3 don’t really have any bearing to what you are feeding into the Tracker. The tracker only converts your cymbal track to MIDI. From there, you can choose the cymbals that suit your song. As to how they turn out at that point is really more up to you than Superior Drummer.
