I hopefully managed to connect my laptop with EZD3 installed to my Roland TD17. Now from Settings/Audio Midi set-up, I want to set the output back to my Roland module, so that I can listen both from its headphones and the Roland PM100 amplifier, who are both connected to the e-drums module. From EZ3 settings, I selected: Audio device type – Direct Sound, and Output – Primary Sound Driver. Is that correct please? Because on online videos on youtube, there were different settings than mine. When I clicked on Audio Device type, there were: 3xWASAPI; Direct Sound; and ASIO to choose from. Thanks.
Hi,
first make sure you have the latest drivers:
https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/td-17/updates_drivers/
This is from the manual:
The USB driver is software that transfers data between your computer’s software and this unit.
In order to transmit or receive audio as USB AUDIO, you must install the USB driver.
1. Install the USB driver.
2. Set this unit’s USB Driver Mode to
“VENDOR.”
* The setting takes effect when this unit’ is powered off and on again.
3. Connect this unit to the computer (p. 3). MEMO
For details on downloading and installing the USB driver, refer to the Roland website.

Many thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions and solved part of the problem. The software is recognising TD 17 in the output.
Now I encountered another issue. When I beat on the edrums, the sound (both headphones and amplifier) is low and strange, especially the snare. But when I click on the snare on the PC (on the EZ3), the sound from both headphones and amplifier is perfect and loud.
Is that what is supposed to happen please? I thought that using EZ3 will improve the sound of my edrums. I think that it’s my fault and I’m doing something wrong. Can you please advise? Thanks
Hi,
when you click the drums in the EZdrummer 3 interface, it equals a full velocity hit, i.e. as loud as it can get. When you hit your pads normally, you don’t hit with full velocity.
If you do hit your pad as hard as you can and still not get a full velocity hit, you may have to first visit your module’s sensitivity and/or curve settings. If this isn’t enough, you can visit the E-drums settings in EZdrummer 3 and edit the Velocity Curve. If you do so and find a setting you like, you can save this as your own MIDI Preset. You can also ‘Set Current to Default Project’ if you wish to apply this to the Default Startup Project.

John
