I’m thinking about building an electronic drumkit and have been looking into purchasing module… I want something I can play either through a standard amp or speakers.
I was looking at the “The Alesis Trigger I/O” but it appears this can only be played through a computer… Does anyone have any knowledge regarding this product? Any help would be much appreciated.
The Alesis Trigger iO is a MIDI triggering device only (Trigger-to-MIDI interface, or TMI). It contains no sounds onboard. You can hook it to computer in order to trigger Toontrack libraries, or you can hook it to any device that accepts MIDI (keyboard workstation, etc.).
A complete drum module (Roland, Yamaha, etc.) will contain a TMI, plus will have sounds, mixers, fx, etc. to make a complete drum system. You can still use one of these modules as a TMI to trigger Toontrack libraries. It is what many people do when they realize that the sounds of their module can not provide the quality they were hoping for. I use an older Roland TD-10 to trigger dfh Superior and EZDrummer.
Joe,
Do you know how I can use the mixed sounds I have created for our album for live shows. I am going to trigger my acountic kit using something like the Alesis Trigger I/O and hope to hook it up to DFH but will it only play the drum sounds from the program as they sound before I have a chance to use effects on them? If so then I hope S2.0 will fix that beccause it seems there will be some effects included. This is probably a very elementary question but I am dying to get s2.0. I have Vista right now so everything is limited.
