I had SD3 a couple of months ago which I bought second-handed, but sold it pretty quickly after realizing how inconvenient it’s midi mapping was. Before that, I worked with Addictive Drummer, which in my opinion has a WAY BETTER midi mapping (Why the actual F*ck is the Hihat located between the toms and 3 octaves above has better controls?!) and I sold my SD3 mainly due to the fact I had to change many of my Addictive Drums mapping to the SD3, which was hell.
Now I rethink purchasing again, but not without making sure first that it’s possible to rearrange the midi map to match the one of Addictive. Anyone knows if possible, what’s the procedure, and if this change is saved for all drums presets? I remember some presets have different keys, which makes it even worse…

Hi Tom,
I hope we can help you get things to work smoother for you.
First, “better” is IMO subjective here. Regarding Hi Hats, you have 12 different articulations mapped for the HH in AD2. In SD3, you have 24, i.e. double the amount. Those articulations have to go somewhere on the keyboard layout and the goal is to both be drums GM compliant plus grooves and library compatible across the Toontrack line.
If you find that the AD2 Keyboard layout suits you better, you can go into the Settings > MIDI In/E-drums and select the AD2 MIDI Preset (as in my screen shot).
This will make it possible to have the layout applied when you play but still use Toontrack MIDI in the Grooves Browser. Does this help?

Hi Michael,
which preset are you starting from? It seems a bit strange that all of those are not mapped. If you have started by loading articulations not included in the preset you’re starting from, it’s not strange that they are unmapped. I would simply open the MIDI Mapping Property Box on the DRUMS page and with the articulation in question selected, click on the small “hamburger” menu to the right of the articulation name and ‘Add suggested note’.

John
