I have EZD, SD, EZMix and all kinds of extension packs. I just purchased New York Studios Vols 2 and 3 and they require 30GB HD space to install, and I don’t have that much room left on my C drive. When I first purchased and installed Toontrack, I had no idea that eventually it would take up so much HD space, so I put it on my C drive. I have plenty of room available on other drives (on a separate physical HD) so my question is, would I have any issues if I just cut-and-paste the whole Toontrack folder from the C drive to, say, the D drive? I use Toontrack with Reaper and I realize I may have to redirect Reaper to the new drive location. I have Win XP Media center on my PC.
thanks,
Hi,
on PC, you can not simply move and point to, with the exception of the Superior 2 SDX libraries. The SDX:s can actually be moved and pointed to from within the Superior 2 plugin; go to the settings page and set the new location for each SDX you own (outlined in the PDF Manual).
The EZdrummer EZX:s and Toontrack MIDI(in the ‘EZHOME’ location, usually ‘C:Program FilesToontrackEZdrummer’), on the other hand, need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to the new location.
It may well be enough for you now, to move the Superior 2 SDX(s), but in case you wish to move the ‘EZHOME’ repository:
1) uninstall EZdrummer and the EZX:s you have, via ‘Add/Remove Programs’. Also uninstall any Toontrack MIDI packs (this will not rob you of any Authorizations)
2) uninstall the Superior 2 plugin, not the sound library (you can move this one manually, remember)
3) if you have EZplayer Pro installed, uninstall as well and make sure no more Toontrack plugins are left in the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ list
4) Install the Superior 2 plugin from the latest available update (currently 2.3.1) and pay attention during the installation procedure. You will be presented with the options to select destination for both where the plugin .dll file should be installed (this one you can let Default install to the system drive) and where you wish to set your ‘EZHOME’ location to. Navigate to where your ‘EZdrummer’ folder should reside on your other drive.
5) Install EZdrummer from the ‘Full Download’ archive (big red PC button), available in your Toontrack account. This installation should now install the sounds and MIDI to your Custom set ‘EZHOME’ location, e.g. ‘MY_FWDriveToontrackEZdrummer’
6) Apply the latest EZdrummer update
7) Install the rest of your products from the Full Download archives available in your account.
If you have downloaded all Full Download archives of your products and their updates, this outlined procedure will actually be measured in minutes, even though it may seem to be a tedious task.
After you have Custom installed to the new ‘EZHOME’ location the first time, all subsequent EZX or MIDI installations will automatically go to the right location.
I hope this helps,
John

Thanked by: Hisui_1John,
Excellent info, thank you so much. This covers everything I need to know.
I installed the New York Studios Vol 2 to the C drive Toontrack folder (default location) and it took quite a while to install so I’m glad to hear that I can move it to another drive and point to rather than have to uninstall and reinstall to the other drive. Likewise, when I install NYS Vol 3, I will install it to the other drive.
I can’t recall if NYS asked for an install location or if it auto-installed to the C drive. Either way. I will move/install the two NYS SDXes to a different drive and this should free up enough space on my C drive to comtinue normal operations.
Although it has been working basically without incident for seven years, eventually my XP machine will have to go away and I will need to get a 64-bit box. But by then I figure I will have 10+TB of HD space and this won’t be an issue.
Anyway, thanks again for a thorough and detailed answer!
Veech
the SDX installer suggests a fixed default path, but all allow a custom install path. As stated by John it is totally OK to have one SDX on one drive and another on a different drive.
My suggestion, as was his, is to leave EZdrummer on the main drive and move your SDX-s as needed to a different one.
If you do need to move it to another drive I think I should point out that John was mostly correct, but at this point it is not strictly required to uninstall and reinstall your EZX-s and MIDI and they can be dragged to the new drive manually – only the EZdrummer program itself requires proper removal and re-installation to the new path. Then the ‘MIDI’ folder and all your ‘EZX_’ folders can be moved to the new path manually (directly inside the ‘EZdrummer’ folder on the new drive).
That said if you only have a few EZX-s and MIDI packs then the method outlined by John is preferable and will not take very long to perform.

I have a bunch of expansion kits and a ton of midi as well. I think moving the two New York SDXes to a different drive will suffice for now but just to clarify, it’s ok to move the midi also?
Can I just create a single folder in the other drive and call it ‘EZdrummer’ and load all the EZD and SD expansion kits and midi files (even third party midi files) to it and point to it from EZD? Do I also need to point to it from SD or does one “point” do it all?
My final question would be, how do I tell EZDrummer to look in the D drive for the expansion kits and midi? I won’t be at my studio computer until tomorrow night so I’m not able to look at the PDFs or read-me’s at the moment.
Thank you Rogue for the follow-up.
Turns out this was very simple. I created a Toontrack folder on the D drive, loaded the NY Studios SDX to it and SD found them with no issues at all.
