I am looking for the best most stable setup for a live setup. Some shows will be an hour and some will be 4. List of equipment I already have, Roland td10, Tascam us-1641 audio interface, I have a laptop but in the process of getting an Alienwear 15 or 17. (undecided). I have thought about getting an Alesis triggerIO because it is smaller, and another audio interface. I used it these some with my old laptop but about 30 min, I would have to restart the program because of a crash. Please help. Has anybody even used this in a live situation???
Drums lay down the rhythm for all to follow
Sounds like a software conflict causing the crash. I’d try a new laptop or reinstall windows and build up the software install from scratch. Here’s What I use and it is completely stable:
Newish Gateway laptop with 6 Gb ram
7 piece junk drumset converted to electronics with Pearl Tru Trac heads + a few Pinctec tube & duckie triggers
Zildjian Gen16 Cymbals (because no software/module combination has nailed all the nuances of playing cymbals)
Alesis TriggerIO (but your TD10 should work as well as my TriggerIO)
PreSonus Audiobox 2×2 (Cheap and h as real ASIO)
SD 2.0 with several EZX’s to expand the library
VSThost and Bloxpander for hosting (keep going back and forth – both work well) – Superior and another VST I use to trigger loops and samples
and I splurged on RNDI’s for cases where I have to plug into MIC inputs rather than line inputs on house mixers at a few venues.
Check out the info pages for DAW manufacturers sites to optimize your laptop for realtime audio. I don’t load any other software on the one I use for performance. It may be overkill, but it prevents software conflicts and unknowingly introducing background tasks that increase latency to humanly discernible levels.
I hope this helps. I can’t answer questions about equipment I don’t have. Most of the electronic bits I went the cheap route and was just careful to optimize a fresh OS install with what I need to perform and install nothing else other than a triggerIO config utility, a midi librarian and a few sound and midi tools like Midi-Ox.
Peace, love and drums, Anne
