I recently purchased EZDrummer and a Lexicon Lambda USB Audio/MIDI interface. I installed this on a Dell D610 with 1GB RAM. I have updated EZDrummer and have the latest solo installed. I am also wanting to use my Yamaha dtxplorer to trigger the drum sounds to play “live”. I know that from other posts I read that EZD isn’t supported for live performance and edrums type stuff like Superior, but I am trying to make it work.
Here’s my problem. Latency with the Lexicon Lambda (with ASIO drivers used). The default latency setting for the Lambda is horrible. I can’t even play the drums at all the latency is so bad. After reading the manuals, etc. I found about the settings for the Lexicon can be adjusted in Cubase and I can reduced the buffer to 64 in solo. I can get the latency down, but if I try to get the delay down too low, I start getting cracks, pops, distortion from the Lambda.
I then installed ASIO4All and using the internal sound card of the Dell laptop, the latency is very low. So, it isn’t really EZDrummer, it’s the audio interface. The internal card is much better than the Lambda. No latency at all. The problem is, I bought this nice Audio interface that has a better sound when it works, but I can’t use it. I am planning to return it to get something else. The question is, what should I buy to prevent the same problem?
A USB 2.0 (as opposed to USB 1.1) interface with a different brand interface?
Try firewire? (would require me to buy a pcmcia firewire card)
pcmcia card?
I was hoping for something to use for both live performance and recording that has MIDI and audio. I need something with the lowest latency. What do you or others recommend? Is USB not going to work? Is my CPU to blame?
Thanks,
Dan
