Hi all!
The predominant method of controlling the hi hat sound with the foot seems to be to either use a a commercial or IDY designated pedal with the electronics in it or to attach a sliding resistor or potentiometer to the pedal of a classic hi hat stand.
What do those who are more gifted and educated with electronics than I am think of the idea of using a classic hi hat stand with two cymbals and installing a device that senses the pressure below the bottom cymbal? This might be done with a force sensitive resistor or a bending sensitive resistor, and to translate its output into something the drum unit understands?

very complicated?
best alternative approach i heard from is using a led and a light-sensitive resistor thus having no mechanical parts. this was on teh website of eDrum, not my idea.
