Hi Toontrack,
I’m auditioning the demo version of EZ keys upright in Protools 9 and noticing that all the sounds on appear to have this faint gauze of distortion over the high end. It sounds like “digital aliasing” distortion adding strange harmonics to the sound. I’d say it’s subtle but it’s pretty annoying. Alicia’s keys and the built in Mini-Grand plugs are NOT exhibiting the same problems in the same session. UPDATE: The ezkeys Grand Piano plugin also does not exhibit the artifacts,
NOTES:
* I’m on a Mac, PT9, 10.6.8, Saffire Pro 40 interface.
* This is NOT the detuning thing that happens every few minutes in the demo… that sounds totally different.
* I tried a few different buffer sizes. 128, 256, 512… all sounds the same.
Any ideas? It’s almost as if I’m playing a 12-bit version of the samples… I can’t buy the plug if it sounds like this. Shame since underneath, I can tell the sounds are likely decent.

Thanked by: chrismHi,
could you please record a short sample of what you are describing and post it here?

I was listening to demo’s on youtube just now and I heard it too, a sort of high pitched distorted ringing.
Not to be confused with the ringing overtones when sustained notes are dying out, and only on the upright piano indeed.
To be honest, listening to the demo’s on the Toontrack site I’m not sure if i can still hear it so maybe it’s solved already?
I would like to know because I was thinking about maybe buying the Essential Keys Bundle and this would put me off.
Thanks,
MGB
