Demoing EZDrummer 2, I noticed that when editing a MIDI file using the “edit play style” dial there appears to be no provision for limiting the number of kit pieces that are being played to 4; two hands, two feet.
I don’t follow you. The Toontrack MIDI is played by a human and not an octopus
All the MIDI is triggered by the player’s 2 hands and 2 feet. Unless you are adding percussion, then more than one player is expected. Are you asking how to limit the kit to only 4? If so, select ‘None’ in the kit piece drop down menu so there is only 4 kit pieces loaded.

If I want to add a tom fill to a MIDI file that was originally performed using only the kick snare and high-hat the toms don’t steal from the snare and high hat. Jamstix is the only example I can think of. At no time can more than four pieces be played when creating or editing a performance.
That’s correct – you have to manually remove the hi-hat if you don’t want that during the toms fill. This is because we didn’t want to force users into this “realistic” mode. If it sounds good to the user if the hi-hat and ride plays at the same time we figured that it was up to the user to decide that.

Perhaps having the option would be another way to go. Most people use MIDI files for realism and having the ability to add (or subtract) hits while maintaining realistic playing technique would be welcomed.
Your request is noted! I agree that it could be a nice optional feature.

If enough of us chime in maybe the developers will note it also.
