I tracked some demos for an artist friend of mine a few weeks ago and used EZ Mix presets on the drum channels. I’m a drummer and definitely not a sound engineer, so I thought I’d try out the EZ Mix software since it wasn’t very expensive. It really surprised me!
I put a Fat Snare preset (slightly tweaked) on my snare close mic (SM57), the Kick 3 (I think) preset on the Beta 52 kick mic, the Tom 3 preset on the floor tom, and the Overhead 3 preset on the left & right overhead channels. I didn’t have any room mics, so all of the “roomy” sound is coming from the overheads and the benefit of the EZ Mix presets used on them.
Check out the videos and let me know what you think. I was pretty happy with the drum sound. I do, after listening back more closely, think the kick drum needs to be louder in the mix quite a bit. But this was a really quick mix and the tracks will, in no way, be final. Just demos.

Thanks for checkin’ em out!
Nice.
I like your snare.
Should the bass/kick be more balanced? It sounds like the bass eats…
Thanks for these examples with EZ Mix
