I haven’t heard anything back from Toontrack but I think the “20% discount offer” applies to a very small number of products. Here’s the (long) list of exceptions to that offer:

I know there have been selected items on sale. However, after purchasing 2 EZXs – one on sale and one not – I received an e-mail that contained this text:

It’s infuriating to be offered a discount AFTER making a purchase. I bought what I needed during their holiday sale. Why would I be making another purchase before year end? I spent my career in customer service. If a company I worked for did this I know that the call center would be swamped with calls from angry customers. Now I’m an angry customer.

The email is misleading. If you look carefully, “EZ Expansion” is exempt from this “20% discount offer”. The small print says: “All items available in the webshop for the duration of the promotion apply, except for…” and then there’s a list of pretty much all the software they sell. So, in this instance, I don’t think it would’ve made a difference for you. I’m in a similar boat

I appreciate your responses, but that’s not what it says – or at least what my email says. I pasted in the full text of my email, minus my specific discount code and the company info in the footer. If you look at the first bullet point, it excludes the “EZX Value Pack” which is EZD3 plus 2 EZXs. That’s how I got started with EZD. The second-to-last bullet excludes “EZ Expansion Value Pack” which allows you to make your own bundle of 3 EZXs. The last bullet point excludes 5 specific EZXs and a bunch of non-EZD expansions. It really is as bad as it seems.

I decided I could only afford 2 EZXs this year, though there are 6 or 7 that I would like, and I waited until all the year-end sales were announced to make my choices. As a thank you they tell me I can have a 20% discount on the entirety of my next purchase (minus the aforementioned exclusions) as long as I do it in the next week. That is a crappy way to treat a customer.
