I’m working on a Sonic Youthy type thing and I’m at the part where I randomize the velocities of certain things like hats the hats to have a more natural feel. I tend to hit hard so lots of my stuff is max velocity. I’m using Rooms of Hansa and performed it on a Nitro with a small snare pad, so I’ve got lots of rim shots.
It sounds good and the center hits are widely varied, but the rim shots are nearly all max velocity. I’m wondering if SD3 is using round robin or something because its not sounding like a drum machine. Am I right about that?
Trying to decide if I should randomize the velocities a bit, but I’m not sure if it sounds natural. Thoughts?
