Hey guys,
LOVE your work. I e-mailed you earlier about maybe doing an SDX in a soul/RnB/Hiphop direction, the likes of ?uestlove and Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, and more recently: Yussef Dayes (for Tom Misch) as that sound is still missing a bit from my repertoire. However with some tweaking I am often able to get kits from Custom & Vintage and Roots to sound in the right direction.
However, recently came into a situation I really don’t have a good solution for yet, which is the old school ‘one mic’ sound. Drums recorded with a carefully placed single (or maybe dual) microphone capable of capturing the entire kit.
I know ‘recently’ the Dap-Kings use this recording technique for acts like Amy Winehouse and there’s probably a lot of other bands that use it as well.
Now I’m aware of the fact that most of your libraries have ambience mics, but while these work perfectly to ‘compliment’ the drum sound, they don’t quite play the part I’m looking for.
Cheers, and I’m looking out the your next SDX!
Guido
