A WALK DOWN
THE METAL
MONTH MEMORY LANE.
TEN YEARS OF
METAL MONTH MADNESS.
SINCE 2010.
The first edition of Metal Month was launched in 2010 and was a way of making sure we stay connected to the company’s metal roots. But in order get the story straight, we need to…
REWIND TO 1999.
Back in the late nineties, Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal and Toontrack co-founder Mattias Eklund had a dream of making the ultimate library of sampled drums. It was a bold plan that included individual mic bleed and a velocity detail unheard of at the time. After several test recordings, they ventured off to Uppsala, Sweden with Tomas Haake and Daniel Bergstrand to start recording what would become Drumkit From Hell. This recording changed the face of the industry, set a new benchmark for how to sample drums and is the very foundation of the Toontrack company. Above is a shot of the guys – ten years after!
DELIVERING THE EXTREMES.
The first-ever Metal Month product releases included classics like the Metalheads EZX and Dirk Verbeuren’s Library of the Extreme – Death & Thrash MIDI pack. We have since worked with Dirk on several other MIDI-related projects.
SNEAP TAKES OVER!
The year after, in 2011, we released the Metal Machine EZX by Andy Sneap – an instant success and undoubtedly a staple for metal drums! This is the definition of a modern classic.
BRINGING IT TO THE STAGE.
Through the years, we’ve also done unique concerts with Meshuggah (playing likely the smallest venue in the past 20 years of the band’s career) and…
…livestreaming events with Soilwork and…
…Devin Townsend Project, Animals as Leaders as well as Monuments, not to mention…
…when we had Devin Townsend livestream a songwriting session, allowing viewers a direct look into how his creative mind works.
SHARING YOUR METAL.
Other Metal Month classics include the Metal Month Jukebox, allowing our users to showcase their music on our page. TONS of amazing music through the years!
AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO.
As grateful we may be for everything we get to do on off hours (like hanging out at awesome livestreams and concerts), the work that goes into getting our new releases ready for Metal Month is at the heart of what we do. Through the years, countless awesome sounds, tools and collaborations have lead to titles like…
The Metal Guitar Gods EZmix Pack suite…
…EZXs and SDXs like the Death & Darkness SDX, The Rock Foundry SDX, Made of Metal EZX, Drums of Destruction EZX and many more as well as…
…MIDI packs like Matt Gartska’s Metal Fusion MIDI, the Death Metal MIDI pack by Dave McGraw, the Progressive Metal MIDI pack by Jay Postones and many, many more…
When Metal Month is around the bend, our awesome artists always come through! Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of remixing countless songs from albums using our new Metal Month sounds, enjoyed video playthroughs, custom-written tracks, premiered band videos, published interview features, and of course…
…collaborated with tons of them in Metal Month video series classics like Drumception (don’t miss this year’s edition!), the Drag & Drop Challenge and more!
NOT JUST WORK.
Each year we normally bring together some of our collaborators and friends for a true Metal Month bash. In 2019, we had the pleasure of welcoming an array of guests that we’ve worked with through the years.
Welcome Metal Month 2020 and another
November to remember.
