The Metal Foundry SDX – 14″ Sabian HHX Power Hats
The Hi-Hat articulation „Open 5“ at 127 velocity contains at least 2 samples which belong to another sample pool. These 2 samples are way too soft. „Open 4“ and “Open 3” have the exact same issue but even worse. It’s sounds horrible if you use those.
Humanization is all turned off (it’s not due to adjacent layer usage). All available samples activated.
This issue exists since a long time (already in SD2). Any plans to fix that? Or any plans to allow users to deactivate certain samples?
I love the hi-hat sound but this issue ruins it for me.
Thanks
Hi,
did you try opening the Voice and Layer properties and set the Layer Limits to ‘-‘, then un-check the ‘Use Adjacent Layers’ in ‘Hit Variation’?
Do you have the 1.5.0 Sound Library update applied?

Hi John,
yes,
I am 100% confident this is not an user issue. Other users also reporting the same issue.
Please try it yourself. Use the respective hi-hat articulation Open 3, 4 or 5 and repeat with 127 velocity. You will see there are a lot of extremely soft hits in the sample pool. Sounds like the drummer is loosing his stick repeatedly. ?
Thanks for investigating.
Hi,
I did try the above before posting and thought it produced better result at 127 velocity. I personally think the Hit Variation works a bit fishy with this HH, so I’ll send a note internally for the guys to look at this thread.

Hey John,
any news regarding this topic? Did someone investigate this deeper and can finally confirm and address the issue?
Thanks
Hi guys, I know it has been/is being looked into but I do not know whether it is an easy fix or not. If I do get further info, I will post it here.

John

This is sadly still a problem..
The power hats is my favorite in the metal foundry, but its not really usable when “dropping out” of the mix with the random soft hits.
Hope for a fix one day 🙂
maybe in 20 years.. toontrack don’t fix Sample Pool Bad samples.. they just release new material every year..
Quantity Over Quality ..
it is simple open the sample pool.. find the sample.. and pull down the volumen from that sample… -12 dbs.. or 8.. and release and update.. easy.. how hard can it be?
