A little background will help to explain my question.
I used to enjoy a bit of home recording back in 1990, with a guitar, Alesis R16 and a small Tascam 4 track. However, life took over as usual, and I gave all that up when I started a family and had to work all hours in crappy jobs to support them. Over the years, I’ve tried three or four times to plug a guitar into a computer using audio equipment which was begged or borrowed, but have always encountered latency issues, unstable audio interface drivers, and awful sound.
A few weeks ago though, I managed to get a cheap Zoom G1Xon pedal, which is really fun to play with, and I started picking up my guitar again. Then a couple of days ago, someone lent me a Zoom R16 multitracker, and suddenly, using it as an audio interface, I am able to record into Reaper with no notable latency, and it sounds great. So now I’ve got the recording bug again.
The next step is drums. EZDrummer looks and sounds great, and seems worth it for the price (which is a huge consideration, because I haven’t got much money for indulging in hobbies). The only thing putting me off is the licensing, because I’ve read that I only get to install it 4 times.
I’d like to buy it right now, and put it on my two laptops. But both my computers are very old (about eight or nine years), and I might have to replace them in the next year or two if they start dying. So, once installed again on the new laptops, is that really it? If one of the breaks or gets stolen, I’d have to buy EZDrummer again? Or would Toontrack listen to my circumstance, and probably reset the installations so I could install more times?
I mean, the idea is to prevent piracy and sharing, right? Not to force customers to buy the software again every handful of years?
Thanks for clarifying.

The 4 authorizations are not the limit. Your license allows 2 simultaneous installations. Once you reach 4 total authorization, you can contact us and we can remove the old ones. No worries.

Thanked by: NebThanks for the confirmation.
I just had another thought. In order to monitor the licensing, does the software require internet to ‘phone home’ every time it starts? What happens, for instance, if I am in a rehearsal space that doesn’t have internet? Will the plugin still work?
Thanks.

Hi,
once Authorized it does not require Internet connection for operation save the ‘Shop Web shop MIDI’ preview and function.
