So I thought i’d let you hear a song I’ve been working on as it’s getting there or thereabouts.
The very very beginning is from a 4-track version (remember them?!) that I recorded it on about 25years ago when i wrote the song, but I wanted to record it again using some technology and skills i’ve learned.
The morse code you hear is the the title of the song, converted to morse code, and tuned lol
I’ve used reversed guitars as I wanted it kind of dreamy.
Drum wise, this is what I’ve done:
First i used EZD2, and couldn’t find the fills and the rythmn i wanted for one of the verses and the outro that i wanted/liked, so i bought a cheap Alesis DM6 (£100), and recorded midi parts and put it all together. I had a drum kit for a few years when i was really young so i managed, and it was actually very straight forward to do.
I used two instances of EZ2, and put a long reverb on the dark toms near the begining……. would actually have liked kettle drums!
I’ve still to record a melody for the 8-bar instrumental part in the middle…..and i’m borrowing a keyboard to do this soon.
I used Cubase 5, and my UAD plug ins, a Squire P-bass, and an Epiphone 339 Pro which i bought for this song as it has a stereo output (acoustic and humbucker) all DI’s into my TC Elec Konnect or UR242, Rode NT2000 and it’s all been mixed under a set of AKG712 headphones (which i highly recommend).
The song isn’t 100% complete as i’ll do a little mastering on it when all the parts are done.
Anyway, thanks for listening and/or commenting.
Hi Rallyboy,
Really liked the song. The BGV at 2 and 4 minutes where very nice I think they really fit with the dreamy feel you are trying to evoke seems like you could visit it once more within the body of the song. As for the middle section why not explore using the vibrato guitar there, as an example listen to what you were doing at around 3 minutes. If I could given one small constructive criticism – that is to fade the morse code part a little earlier since it is more straight time and the rest of the song has more swing to it, I think it takes away from the groove of the song.
I hope I haven’t offended with what I wrote above.

Thanks for the comments Dan, and glad you liked the song. I’ll never be offended by anyone’s comments.
What’s BGV? lol ……. the symbols?
Yeah, i could run away with a guitar on vibrato in the middle section, but want to try something else first to add a bit more colour, but i might end up doing guitar, i also think it would fit good.
I hear you on the morse code at the end, but i did it like that so that the song was finished, but the morse hung on a little longer, so that it sort of brought the beginning of the song/feeling back (and being lost/morse code etc etc……probably doesn’t make sense, but i know what i mean! lol
Thanks again.
