Hi, I’m running an old version of protools HD as use the Digidesign Control 24 mixer which is incompatible with newer versions. Wanting to run EZ Drummer I’ve purchased a brand new iMac 3.4ghz with 8 gig of ram running Mac OS 10.12.4.
I plan to run this solo without a DAW then save the WAV file and download that into ProTools and create the rest of the track there.
My questions are:
1) Will the iMac run EZ Drummer ok? (hope so as I’ve already bought it)
2) Will I need a sound card (I presume I will but wondered if the headphone socket will do until it’s in Protools later).
3) Lastly are there any other problems or things I should be aware of that you can see arising from this use?
I understand that it would make more sense to run EZ Drummer as a plugin but I don’t want to replace my mixer as it is a good mixer that I am used to and don’t want to learn another.
Many thanks for your help,
Pete
That should run EZD just fine.
Sound card? You have to go external to “add” anything to an iMac.
As far as playing sounds it will be fine as is..
External speakers/monitors/earphones, etc…
8GB of ram is not very much in 2017.
I’d upgrade your ram before anything else…
32GB/64GB if possible.
16GB will work for smaller projects but if you do a lot of editing or use a lot of tracks/effects you will want more ram!
