Hey guys. So I’ve been messing with my presets quite a bit and I have everything dialed in juuuuust the way I like it, BUT, I’d like my snare to have a bit more of a punch to it, preferably with a long lasting overtone/snare buzz. I’ve tried layering snares, EQing, and compressing them to try to achieve both the punch and sustane I’m looking for to stand out in my mix. Although I’ve come closer to the sound I’m looking for, I feel like I’m definitely missing something. Here’s a link to what kind of snare sound I’m looking for. https://drewsifstalin.bandcamp.com/track/contempt-3
You aren’t going to get “that” sound on snare alone by tweaking and tuning it. There’s a delay, Reverb, definitely compression as it sounds smashed to me, and likely saturation, distortion and parallel compression as well. But what you can do is route the channel through your daw or if going direct out through whatever add a nice short plate Reverb with a long pre delay and get there or closer. Try the decay between .5 and .8 seconds and the pre delay around 50 to 100ms and tweak other setting to taste… insert it on your snare and use the wet/dry to adjust or set it up as a Buss to run whatever you want through.
