I have EZDrummer 2, and the Reggae EZX pack, which was a free add-on. I later bought the Reggae Beats MIDI pack.
I’m interested in expanding further but am very unclear as to the difference between a MIDI pack and an Expansion pack–can’t find a conclusive explanation on the site and can’t really tell from what I have. I’m considering a 6 MIDI pack bundle.
MIDI packs contain MIDI drum grooves only. EZXs contain sounds as well as MIDI grooves.

Thanks, Scott. Due to the projects I’ve been working on I haven’t used the MIDI pack or the EZX I have that much yet (or least enough to realize what’s different).

But do EZXs contain ALL the MIDI grooves that the same-name MIDI pack does?
I’m looking to buy the Alt-Rock EZX (which says it comes with “a selection” of grooves), and I saw that the Alt-Rock MIDI pack has 400+ grooves. Does that Alt-rock EZX have ALL 400 of the grooves in the MIDI pack?

Unless stated as otherwise, all MIDI packs contain unique MIDI that isn’t duplicate or repeated anywhere else in any other MIDI pack or EZX or SDX.
In the pic below for the Americana MIDI, it states that it is the same MIDI as in the Americana EZX. If it doesn’t indicate that, it isn’t available in another product.
The Alt-Rock MIDI pack contains unique MIDI since it isn’t stated as such. The Alt-Rock EZX has its own MIDI and it would say indicate it if it had duplicate MIDI.

Thanked by: Emmanuelraj and Garrett ScrogginI don’t think that’s always the case. The EZX Reggae grooves and the Reggae Beats MIDI seem to be different.
For example, Roots/Straight 4/4 in the EZX are 110 bpm.
The Roots Straight 4/4 in the MIDI are 100 or 120 bpm.
The biggest fault I find with EZD2 in general is that the grooves do not have unique file names: I go slightly batty with everything being “Variation 1,” etc.

I take this comment back: I did not know that clips can be renamed so easily. I’ve started assembling folders in my user MIDI, named as per the MIDI pack from which the clip comes. I didn’t realize that you could right click and call them whatever you want. For me I go with the “family” plus the part it is, plus the number of the variation. This is very useful.
Hi Guys. I read all what you all said. just wanna make sure I understand? did you all mean if I buy the Reggae EZX, the midi file in Reggae EZX would be the same as the Reggae Beat Midi or not? I plan to purchase Reggae EZX but I want to make sure if I’d need both. Thanks

Thanked by: Philippe EdouardGuys. I wanna say thanks for all the helps? I am new to the Toontrack family so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the midi pack? For example if I could combine/ Mix EZkeys midi and EZdrummer midi together to make the 6? or should it be EZkeys midi alone and EZdrummer midi alone?
Hello But How can we know what is the difference between those independent grooves and the expansion midi? is there a list of songs or expansion options to see if it is worth it?
Thanks

If you have EZD2 or S3 you can use the Show Webshop MIDI in the browser and audition grooves in any EZX or MIDI pack.

I’m curious what “sounds” come with the expansion packs? If I use the midi pack, I can customize it to my heart’s content. What would steer me toward an expansion pack, as it relates to sounds, vs. the midi pack?
Thank you!
Expansion packs include kits; midi packs do not. For example, I’ve bought expansion packs (such as alt rock) only because I wanted a specific sound, like timpani. Having several expansion packs can be very useful.
