Hi
I have question about drummaps.
If i set new drummap in my DAW and make some changes to the standard one and then i will load a song made with this drummap in another DAW (where my drummap is not instaled, of course the same EZX is in use), will it work fine? or drumsamples will be messed up? for example kick instead snare or something? Or drummap is just a view of instrument list, seting up for easier production and always sounds the same way?
I dont need to change keys assigned to invidual part of drumset, but i just thinking about changing placement on the instrument list.
My experience with Cubase is that you’ll have to make up a new drummmap, probably for other sequencers as well. The way i work is mostly with Cubase format only however. Usually i start with an existing drummap for Cubase – EZdrummer, and change a lot of sound-naming when necessary, and save the works under a different name.
I also have Groove Agent, alsoSteinberg; luckily you can automatically load those drummaps. But i’d love to find a faster way of constructing EZdrummaps.
PS i always have wondered why the same sounds are triggered with different Midi notes in EZ drummer, makes this job unnecessarily complicated. -F
Managing of drummaps seems to be clear for me. Im just not sure if i can export midi file created with not standard drummap without causing any problems when its loaded again by another person who dont have my drummap installed.
Isn’t the idea of the drum maps in Cubase that they wrap for conformity inside Cubase?
Which would mean that the actual MIDI notes aren’t altered.

maybe i just don’t understand an idea of drummaps… i think untill i dont change key assigment (is it possible via drummap?) all should be played fine after midi export and import on another DAW.
The idea is to keep the midi (midi files) as close to Genaral Midi drum mapping as possible.
As John said , use your drum (re) mapping to alter it inside your program and in turn the midi file it self unchanged is still compatible with the outside world.
Others may need a different drumap for their system but as long as the midi file is in that Same GM type format you have that common starting place and union.
