Simple example of my problem:
It seems Microphone Assignment is not treating each x-drum mic individually, but as part of a kit. Is this supposed to happen?
I mean if I, for example, put DFH’s Cymbal 2 x-drum OH mic into the Reverb bus it will do the same to all the other DFH x-drums.
Meaning I cannot pan cymbals individually, but all cymbals from the EZX.
Actual example:
I got SD2, loaded the Metal Machine EZX into it.
Not the biggest fan of the Zildjan cymbals, so I figure I’ll turn them off and load in some Sabian x-drums from the Avatar SDX and DFH EZX.
So far so good, I’m arranging the x-drums as I want them, HOWEVER an Avatar cymbal and a DFH are not panned correctly.
They’re both on the left side of the kit, but coming out of the right channel.
So I figure: “I’ll put the cymbals’ OH and AMB mics into their own mixer buses via microphone assignment, and I’ll just pan them left in their special bus!”
Which I did, and it worked, buuuuUUUUUUUT…
It didn’t just put the OH and AMB mics of those cymbals into a new mixer ,but all of the cymbals :C
Whatever I do DFH mics happens to all the other DFH x-drums, same for Avatar.
Is there any way to pan cymbals individually?
Help me Toony-Track Forumi, you’re my only hope!
(watched a ton of videos and read threads, even read the manual, dunno what to do)

What you describe is exactly the way it works. The drums of the
main library have a fixed mapping to the mics and X-drums have one
assignable mapping for each library. If you really need to pan those
cymbals individually then there are basically two alternatives. One
is to work with the bounce feature (within Superior Drummer) and
choose to ‘split’ the OH mic. The other is to use multiple instances
of Superior Drummer.

Hmm. Thanks for pointing out those options, Olle.
I however, over the weekend, managed to find a third solution:
Basically I figured out that that the drumkit mics and x-drum mics are separate, even if it’s the same EZX.
So (since I wasn’t using any Metal Machine cymbals) I recreated the Metal Machine kit in the DfH EZX and then I x-drummed in the couple of DFH cymbals that bothered me. I also found a chine in MM that was a satisfying replacement for the Avatar china, so I could freely pan the two Avatar cymbals.
In case this sounds confusing, I’ve attached an illustration; the result is a bit messy, but the drumkit is now 90% as before and with added panning options ^^
In case you guys ever get around to making SD3, you should implement a function where you can start out with just the wooden floor and assemble a drumkit from scratch using X-drums so you can really customise it. It’s my only functionality complaint in what is so far an amazing piece of software!
Maybe even add some different carpet backgrounds you can swap 😛 just my humble GUI designer opinion ;D

Ah, yes, the cumbersome solution 😉
Well, glad you found a way.

Given that all our recordings are made in different rooms with different mics
I would think that is unlikely.
