I want to use SD2 for live music performance primarily, not recording. We have been using a DDRUM DD5X kit which sounds just OK, but we wanted better quality and better variety of kits, and the ability to add FX to snare, kick, etc. We have a MacMini and MainStage 3, so I thought SD2 as a plugin would be the perfect solution.
So, I’m using SD2 and NY Avatar. The hi-hat works correctly ONLY if I set Mapping->Presets->MIDI to “Default”. None of the “E-Drums Specific” settings work correctly. The problem with those settings is that I get a ‘tom’ sound when the hi-hat is partially open.
My primary problem is that with the cymbal choke. The cymbal crashes sound correct, until after I use the choke. The choke appears to work correctly (the cymbal sound stops immediately) the first time. HOWEVER, after I’ve released the choke and hit the cymbal again, I no longer get the crash sound, but only get the choke sound (very short, very faint). I have to restart the software to reset it and get the cymbal to produce a crash sound.
I did find a good video that explained how to setup cymbal choke in SD2 on an e-drum kit, but the “Instrument Articulation” in the video only showed “CRASH” and “MUTE”. My software has “CRASH”, “MUTE HIT”, and “MUTE TAIL”.
I have Midi Monitor and can see that my cymbal choke triggers are sending ‘aftertouch’ values. I know SD2 is receiving them, because it works (the first time).
I just want to be able to grab a cymbal and make it stop! There must be an easy way to do this that I’m missing.
This is an open forum for discussing e-drums in general, like making your
own pads and mesh heads. This is not where we offer support for people
using Superior Drummer with e-drums. That would be in
