Murray JacksonI purchased Superior Drummer 2 in March of 2016. I have saved many preset configurations, MIDI and mixer setups, which work with my TD-20X and my StudioLive mixer.
I find the whole Preset, Combined Preset, MIDI preset, Mixer Preset situation quite confusing for some reason. I have not even touched this software for a few months because I became frustrated searching all the forums, re-reading the manuals and messing around in the software. I have a pretty simple setup with my TD-20 as MIDI trigger and 10 channels assigned on my StudioLive mixer. I have saved Kit configurations to match my physical kit set up with Combined Presets.
Questions: When I open Superior Drummer 2 in Toontrack Solo, and don’t do anything else, it appears that it is opening one of my previous or last configurations but, it doesn’t tell me anywhere, (that I’m aware of), what Preset I am currently working with, other than the particular root kit name.
If I make any changes and I want to save those changes, I have no indication anywhere of what preset I am modifying, so, other than creating a new preset so I don’t inadvertently mess up a good one, what do I do? I create a new preset.
So I have many presets for fear of wrecking something that already works. I simply would like to know what Preset or Combined Preset I am currently working with? Certainly I can open a combined preset and write down or try to remember which particular combinations I am working with but it just seems strange that the software doesn’t tell me what files it has open? I have even resorted to the windows resource monitor to track down what preset I’m currently using.
I have saved MIDI presets that started with the e-drum preset and I tweaked the MIDI triggering from there, then I saved new MIDI Presets.
So, when I launch Superior Drummer 2 in Toontrack Solo my MIDI works properly but it doesn’t give me an indication of which of my MIDI presets I’m currently using. In fact I can’t find any indication anywhere in the menus, MIDI preset or otherwise, that I’m even using a MIDI preset, although I must be because the MIDI triggering doesn’t work for me properly with the defaults, so I know that the software is using one of my saved Combined presets but which one. If that makes any sense?
It would make sense, to me, that the software is loading whatever I was working on last time I closed the software, but even the prompt to Save doesn’t indicate what Preset or Combined Presets I am currently working with?
So, to expand on this a bit further, if the software by default does indeed load a previous or last used saved Combined Preset, but hasn’t loaded the mixer configuration that I think it should be in that Combined Preset, how do I modify and save that particular Combined Preset if the screens or even the Save function doesn’t let me know what I’m working on.
Long-winded, I know, but Ive been all over the net trying to find information on this. Either I’m doing something wrong or this isn’t an issue for drummers?

One post I came across on V-drums.com says to just save your Toontrack Solo projects .tts after configuring everything. Don’t bother saving anything in the Superior Drummer interface.
That seems(?) to work fine and I can see how this would work if you only use SD in TTSolo. Does this have any use if I move my project into one of mine or someone else’s DAW’s or am I back to square 1 again?
BUT, the Superior Drummer Manual completely contradicts this and says something along the lines of:
Do not use any of the configuration settings in TT Solo as you will be missing out on many of the features available in Superior Drummer. It even goes as far as saying that any MIDI and Audio configurations set up in TT Solo may actually create MIDI or other conflicts or delays when using the Superior Drummer software. This is not word-for-word but I don’t have the manual in front of me.
I’m certainly not a software or hardware idiot and I have no problem making everything work, I’m just looking for suggestions for efficient management of projects and configurations?

this is a user community section for E-drummers after all, so don’t be surprised if no one chimes in right away.
Anyways, the visual feedback of editing a Preset you are asking for, has been requested earlier, so it is on the wish-list, so to speak.
Saving a Superior 2 Project file (.s20), saves the entire state of the plugin and this can be opened cross-platform.
A Toontrack solo file (.tts) saves the entire state of all Drummer and EZplayer Pro instances loaded, which includes any MIDI on EZplayer Pro tracks.
If you make any MIDI map affecting settings in Toontrack solo, like select the ‘E-drum’ controller type or Pedal Correction, it does indeed “override” what you have set up in Superior 2, so you shouldn’t do that. Those features are there for EZdrummer 1 users who do not have them available in the plugin.
A Combined Preset can also store the entire state of the plugin and you can select which parts of it to loaded apply to your currently loaded plugin state.
