Hi – EZD 2 looks cool and I’m interested. When I was a kid recording on my Tascam Porta 7, this type of thing was unheard of. Astonishing, really.
Anyway, I’m wondering about functionality with MIDI packs.
I know you don’t get the actual drum sets like you do with expansion packs…Basically it’s just the grooves, all “in MIDI” form (except I don’t know what that means. Sorry I have been actively avoiding anything called MIDI my entire life, so bear with me)…
I’m wondering what can I still do with those MIDI packs. Two questions:
1. Are the MIDI packs just like a looper where I can cut and paste and trim the recorded parts but that’s it – Or can I still use the EZD2 edit play style feature where I “talk to the drummer”, changing velocity and frequency and all that stuff?
2. I’m wondering: can I use the grooves from a MIDI pack but have them played on different drum libraries/my own saved drum configurations, etc., in ezd2?
I hope my questions make sense. I would probably get maybe two real versatile expansion packs for drum sounds, but then maybe a couple MIDI packs for grooves – but I would want to know if I can still adjust the grooves and styles in the MIDI packs like I would with the “Modern” library sounds that come stock on EZD2.
Thanks
Jon
Hi,
the MIDI packs appear in your Browser alongside the included MIDI in the EZdrummer 2 product. They can also be Searched with the Tap2Find feature and used on the Song Track. Of course they can also be edited with the Edit Play Style feature.
MIDI isn’t tied to a specific EZX, so e.g. the Country Grooves will work with the Metalheads EZX sounds. There is one exception; the Latin Percussion EZX works with Percussion MIDI and in particular with the included Percussion MIDI.
I hope this clarifies,
John

You can do any editing of midi pack files – even completely re-vamp any pack file into new beats or improve any beat you “kinda” like – you can save any and All pieces or parts of any midi beat and individual parts of a beat and mix and match/rearrange depending on your ambition
Midis just tell any particular drumset what to play – so sound just depends on the drumsets you own, or want to use.
Tempo is self explanatory but is soley across the entire drumbeat, however you can work with editing time markers like 1/4-1/8-/16/32 etc- – velocity can be used on any drumpiece including just individual hits instead of all hits of any piece of any particular beat you have loaded
You can tear apart any midi pack with editing and create your own entire personal midi pack – thats what i do
Midi packs on their own are cool but i look at them as just templates of grooves laid down and i just edit and morph the crap out of them – and saving is as easy as right click and done
