Hi there,
I’ve finally set up everything and it is such a huge step up in quality (been playing the TD9 for about 4-5 Years now). Chokes and Hi-Hat work just fine.
One thing that is bothering me, though, and might not even be related to hard- or software but myself, are the velocity settings.
Let me explain: If I hit the snare at a, what feel to me, moderate level I already get a velocity value of around 110-120. And it really sounds that way, almost capped. (Same basically applies to toms as well). Now I went into the trigger settings of the TD9 and lowered the sensitivity all the way to 3 (default is 5) and played around with the curves from linear to exponential. I don’t know if those values are normal of if I am hitting way to hard.
As reference to real drumsets I only have videos. Never really played on one for a longer time. It could be, that the samples I was using are just set up this way (Bleed from Metal Foundry) or the settings don’t match, hell I’m not even sure what I’m asking here as it seems so fuzzy for me.
What are the usual velocity levels you get when playing faster metal? I’m not only interested in snare but also other triggers. Maybe it’s really in the detail and I need to fiddle more around with velocity settings on both the TD9 and Superior Drummer. Factory settings of the TD9 sound very intense in terms of velocity, but this also could be just the mixing of the snare being to loud. Any tips?
Thank you in advance. I do realize this is a very strange way to ask something, but it’s hard for me to even pin down what the problem is as it’s just a feeling I have.
PS: I’ve attached some wild drumming (ignore the absence of coordination :D). Is it really just me or does it sound like the snare is hit WAY to hard? (just after the snare roll when the bass drum starts)
