~~~~TL;DR : I want to make some rock/punky type musics with someone over the internets~~~~ (If you are on the reaper forums yes i totally got lazy and copy and pasted this whole thing)
Not sure what the success rate of collaborations are on here at a quick glance but i figured i’d give it a shot. I have done a few via other sites and i had a freaking blast. I use eZdrummer and my daw is reaper. Love them both dearly, but it is getting close to time to upgrade a bnuch of stuff. Scary. But necessary evil.
I am sort of at stalemate with my own creativity lyrics wise. That kind of stinks. But i just moved into my first home, currently doing some rooms in my basement over to be used for recording purposes. It’s a big deal to me, i’ll spare you the sob story though. I work in Northern Alberta and the pickens here for like minded musicians are pretty slim. Same could be said about the abundance of free time to just sit and write but it is enough to soothe the creative beast.
I guess i would just like to really throw myself out there at this point to folks with similar tastes, or if you just want someone else involved in your project and think i could be of any service? I am here.
Guitar yes, but i ain’t no Steve Vai. Think more . . . Mike Ness? Vocals? yes i can! Again, I have a bit more gravel in my throat than i do sparkle but i can sort of do sparkle if it seems to fit the end result. Bass, Check that too. I spent a few years playing bass in a ska punk band and we did the odd Operation Ivy cover. I also have Ezdrummer and i can drag and drop midi files like nobodys business
Stylistically i am all over the board with my likes. I really don’t like to A: pigeon hole myself into one genre or B: wear my influences on my sleeve just because, but for the sake of finding similar tastes i’ll break my own rules. My list of what tickles my fancy and captures my imagination would be the likes of all your gateway acts like Social Distortion, Dropkick Murphys, The Real McKenzies, Ramones, Gaslight Anthem etc. And if i had to go off the “standard” radar I would fine tune the list with the likes of Avail, Hot Water Music, Iron Chic, Leatherface, Dillinger Four, Masked Inturder to name a few. May as well add to that all the little side projects that have sprung from those acts including the whole bag of alt country / acoustic stuff. I have really been smitten with Chris Wollards solo stuff too and I could really sink my teeth into a project similar to that! In a heart beat.
Lately, i have been screwing around with really old folksy blues songs and adding a bit of grit and muscle to them. Pretty happy with that just kind of something missing from them? Could use some input on that? Or a discussion. I also have hordes of riffs and parts of songs laying around i haven’t uploaded (read: finished) but if something comes to fruition and a good working friendship develops we can make something happen from them.
So, that is where my mind is at. I have a few samples of collabs i have done if you want to hear. I Did this one with a fantastic guy from Germany. met Via soundcloud. I liked his stuff. Offered my bass services and some backing vox: https://soundcloud.com/owlsneagles/false-idols-feat-s-m-p-on-bass
This one was a few months long of bouncing ideas back and forth for arrangement ideas. I put all the stuff together and the boys showed up at my apartment one day to put their vocals & individual parts in. Really fun project: https://soundcloud.com/smpeytone/galway-girl-performed-by-mary
This is just my regular profile if you wanted to add or follow or whatever https://soundcloud.com/smpeytone Anywho, Enjoy, hope to hear from someone. All the best in 2015
Wow. I didn’t think my soundcloud links would pop up that large and obnoxious. Sorry about that.
