Hey All
When I built my recording box a few years ago, SSD’s were a little too pricey, so I passed on it. Prices have come down, and I’m thinking of picking up a Samsung 500GB SSD, to replace my existing TB HD. I’m running Windows 7, 64bit, 3.6GHZ quad core AMD processor, 16GB or RAM. I have SD 2.0 as well as EZD2 through Reaper 64bit, my kits are about 2GB in size in SD 2.0 Everything is running on the one drive (should have had two…)
My machine runs fairly smooth now, but does hang up a bit when doing things on the fly – adding VST’s, switching drums etc. I’ve messed with the settings and the box is optimized for recording – its a dedicated music PC.
I’ve read/heard both pro’s and cons of doing this – most of the cons are regarding the imaging/cloning of the original HD.
I know its a pretty broad question, but any input as to whether this is a good idea? Anything I should look out for or stay away from?
Thanks in advance!
