Superior Drummer overheads, can they be split somehow? Superior Drummer with Roland TD15, & Presonus 16.4.2 issue. Hi, I’m a bass player, I’m also the guy in the band who does everything, lighting, mixing, booking gigs, etc. I’m not very good at mixing, so I decided to go down the path of using edrums, so I don’t have to mic a real kit. I bought a real kit, put mesh heads on it, and bought a set of roland triggers, which seem to work great. I use a TD15 module, which I am happy with. We used it at a gig, but were not happy with the sounds of the TD15 kit, going to a stereo left & right pair of channels, as you can’t do much in the way of EQ with that. I have decided to use the mesh head kit, through my TD15 module to trigger Superior Drummer, into my Presonus 16.4.2, using multi outs. I have run into an issue. I know how to set up the multi outs in superior drummer, the way I want them, which is how I have to use them on my desk. I only have 7 channels available out of 16 on the desk, so this is how I’ve done them, All kick mics, set to outputs 1 & 2 in SD, panned left, sent to a mono channel 1 on the 16.4.2 All snare mics, set to outputs 1 & 2 in SD, panned right, sent to a mono channel 2 on the 16.4.2 The 3 toms, set to outputs 3 & 4 in SD, left as the default panning in SD, sent to a stereo pair, channels 3 & 4 on the 16.4.2 The overheads, set to outputs 5 & 6 in SD, panned hard left & right, sent to a stereo pair, channels 5 & 6 on the 16.4.2 Hihats, set to outputs 7 & 8 in SD, panned left, sent to a mono channel 7 on the 16.4.2 Because of the way the 16.4.2 works, you can only pair channels in the the “odd, even” order, e.g. 1 & 2, 3 & 4, not 2 & 3, or 8 & 9. This is why I had to put the hihat last on channel 7. This setup works great, but today I ran into an issue with it. I want to be able to play the gig live this way, & record the live gig also. The 16.4.2 needs the firewire returns engaged from channels 1 – 7 to play the superior drummer sounds from toontrack solo. If I attempt to use the presonus recording software called “Capture”, because I have the firewire buttons engaged, channels 1 – 7 record nothing. So the band gets recorded, except the drums, which is useless. I then had to ditch Toontrack solo, and set SD up in the presonus program DAW called “Studio One V2”. This will let me play and record the edrums with the rest of the band, but, because of the way the outputs a configured in studio one, routing them to the 16.4.2 mixer, doesn’t seem to give me the option of a stereo output for the overheads? My question is, is there a way to split the overheads, or duplicate them, into two mono channels in superior drummer, so I can then route them to my mixer as two mono signals, then just pan one full left, and the other full right on the mixer, to get the stereo effect back?
Hi, Boy u got a lot on your plate! Kudos! I cant say for sure right now, but you might try a demo of Reaper. Its routing is VERY flexible. 30 day non expiring /non crippled/ exactly the same thing the paid version is demo. So nothing to loose. Runs Superior very well. Great forum. Very inexpensive. Hope this helps, Lugs
