So I’ve been using SD with logic pro 9, (now Logic X), and a Roland TD-30 drum kit for over a year now. Everything about the setup has been thoroughly AWESOME…
…with the exception of the hi-hats (VH-11). The HHs just didn’t seem to trigger accurately, and I DEFINITELY wasn’t able to get the full range of expressions. Full opened worked great, but everything from semi-open to fully closed SUCKED. I’ve tried nearly everything to get it right, including surfing these forums for HOURS and applying various modifications from within SD, to within my TD-30 brain. None of it really seemed to work well.
The SD patch really seemed to HELP (but not solve) the problem in Logic 9…then Logic 10 came along and I was back to square one.
Somewhere (on here?) I saw a suggestion to replace my VH-11 HH controller with an FD-8 foot controller pedal. I’m happy to say that made all of the difference! The HH now triggers from within SD like a real HH, fully articulating everything from full open to tightly closed!!
I do have one question though…
Does anybody know if there’s a way to adjust the HH “openness” from within SD? Right now it’s fully open without my foot on the pedal. If I want it to remain “partially open” (without my foot on the pedal) I have to adjust the pedal itself using a drum key.
This is the wrong forum for discussing or asking for help about Superior
Drummer. You should ask that question in the support forum for
Superior. And yes there are ways to control the level of openess
from within Superior.
However this is certainly the correct forum to discuss suitable
hihat hardware for Superior.
