Hi there,
I am planning on getting SD2.0, but was wondering if anyone could recommend a drum module. I started doing my homework, then realized someone would probably know what model would work for me off the top of their head. So, I appreciate the help in advance.
I’m trying to juggle both: spending as little as possible and having all the features I need. That is to say I am not looking at TD-20’s and TD-30’s, but will have to if cheaper models don’t have all the features I would like. Manufacturer doesn’t really matter to me. Probably going to use Hart Dynamics for the pads.
So this is what I am looking for:
– At least (12) inputs: (1) snare, (4) toms, (1) bass, (1) hi-hit, (1) ride, rest are for cymbals.
– Position sensoring , or comparable, technology on the snare. Not sure if this is available on toms…
– Ability to do rimshots on snare and toms.
– Ability to choke cymbals.
– Dual zone hi-hat.
– Three zone ride. (Although having the ability to play the edge may not be critical.)
– It would be cool if the bell on the crash cymbals worked, but not imperative. Not sure how often I would use that function.
Initially, it looks like the TD-8 might be able to do this, but I am not 100% sure.
I don’t care too much about the on board sounds… all the ones I have heard don’t sound good, so just using it the trigger SD. I haven’t been able to find a trigger-to-MIDI converter that would be able to do all this.
What is “variable hi-hat” by the way?
Thanks again!
Ish
Well, after doing research while waiting for a response, I have narrowed down what I do and don’t need; what models will and will not work for me.
The DM10 was sounding pretty attractive until a few minutes ago when read that you can only cymbal choke on Crash1 and Ride. The Yamaha IIS and III seem to have the same issue. I’d like to be able cymbal choke ride, 3 crashes. Also, I would like have three zone ride even if it means dropping one of the 4th tom. It seems like the cheaper Roland models that take a three-zone ride, don’t have a fourth tom.
So I guess the question is: what modules allow for cymbal choking on four-inputs?
Regards,
Ish
A TD15 even a TD11 has aux input for a 4th tom or what ever and this does not take away from the 3 trigger standard Ride , all Cymbals are choke-able.
TD12 would also do well and you can get Mint ones around $850. I know i have one for sale too
You would get another Dual cymbal going and if you have a good snare you would get Positional sensing giving you Rim, Edge and centre shot which on some libraries is a great thing to have.
Thanks for the suggestion on the TD11 and TD15. It looks like I would be limited on adding more cymbals given the one aux input. I am coming to the conclusion that the TD12 you suggested is probably the best match for me. Now I just need to figure out if is cheaper to buy the individual electronic drums, or grab a Hart Studio Master 5.3.
Another vote for the TD-12 – you can always add extra inputs by using a TMC-6 at a later stage.
