I am looking to try adding electronic drum triggers to my acoustic drum set but would like some advice before diving in. I have an old V-pro kit I’ve been using for composition work, but would like to keep that kit in the studio. The idea of adding acoustic triggers is to use them for live sound reinforcement rather than miking up my old kit or spending $2000-3000 on a new kit, plus all the added versatility and volume control samples provide (already using Superior drummer samples in our music).
I’m looking at the ddrum DD1 Drum Module and RedShot Trigger Pack http://www.guitarcenter.com/ddrum-DD…93-i1746147.gc to test out this idea, but am worried they will be so poor that it will unfairly turn me off to the whole idea. The other option looks like the DRT Trigger Kit http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc…igger_Kit.html or Roland’s RT-10S Acoustic Snare Trigger, toms, and bass drum set http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RT10K/, which would require me to use my TD-10 from my composition kit. This would be fine, except for the problem that I cannot save two sets of kit configurations in the TD-10, so going back and forth between e-drums and acoustic e-drums would be a pain. The only solution for this road that I’ve found is getting the TMC-6 Trigger to MIDI Converter http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc…r_to_MIDI.html, but that brings the total for the “experiment” to $600 or more.
Any advice on which triggers work best, or best brand for the buck would be great. Also, any advice on any converter units would also be extremely helpful.
Thanks!

Alesis make a Good Midi Convertor trigger for Drums too and it has USB out and a few more Inputs,
It is cheaper.
I have a new TMC6 but wont be using it, the 6 inputs is a challenge for a full E kit but you may be using Real Cymbals and Hats so it would be ok.
Both work with all the triggers you mentioned, If you want a fair comparison you should compare Ddrums best Trigger’s with Roland’s.
I am not sure the Red-shot’s are their cheaper ones.
SO you plan to use Mesh heads ?
Thanks for the reply Juicy! It’s amazing how little information there is on such a cool subject, especially from the MANUFACTURES (ddrum themselves do not explain if any of their triggers are dual zone or single on their own site)!! That’s why I love Superior and this forum, cool people with good information.
Anywho, yeah, I really didn’t want to go with the TMC6 anyways, and it looks like the Alesis Trigger IO (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TriggerIO/) is PERFECT!! Why was this so hard to find? Thank you so much!
As far as heads go, not sure yet. Going to experiment with using full acoustic heads and matching the samples to get a really fat sound. If that doesn’t work, maybe I’ll try mesh heads or major dampening of the entire kit. Lots of experimentation ahead, should be fun. Thanks again for all the help!

Naturally anything, a Mic or Trigger attached to a Acoustic drums hoop can shorten the note so, if you want best of both or your into that sort of detail you may consider the triggers that sit under the rims, i don’t know if it makes a huge difference but did notice Clip on mic’s altering my acoustic toms decay or resonance.
These ones >>

Personally would probably get Roland Triggers But DD should be Good too .
I was wondering about this too. I have the triggers and pro tools. I was wondering what device I would need to convert audio to MIDI so I can use superior drummer in protools. I know I could use DrumTracker, but looks like a pain in the ass.
