we tried it out – in my opinion NO WAY – specially the annoying high end on the cymbals made it horrible.
why using it?
well maybe for a jazz gig in a hotel where you have to be low on volume – but specially for this occasion (the only one i could think of)
the highs creep into any condenser microphone setup for the piano worse than a normal cymbal – too on a jazz show you might wanna use a neuman kms 104 vocal mic
same effect….
the root cymbals are the best so far combined with the roland cymbals (killersound and finally articulations on the crashes – tip -bell – shank)
my setup with two instances makes sense where i just wanna change the drums but not the cymbals AND as the little thinkpad (second hand fo 300 us) runs with a ssd drive it loads quick as hell. the time between loading a new tom snare kick preset is approx five seconds- now that makes sense for live!!.
the vienna vst host is not cheap but the best vsti host so far (if you dont like it get the free vst host http://www.hermannseib.com/vsthost.htm it is almost as good) – this is a “old” dual core t61 with rme s hammerfall and it works flawlessly.
now if i start to route more outputs separately the computer reaches his limits, therfore it would be fantastic if at least the mixer faders of drummer could be addressed with midi – i could run it live only stereo out BUT control the volumes of drummer (rooms n stuff).
here s a little video i made:
