These are my settings for my EQ cuts to the metal machine drum kit. These help to get rid of some of the ring and rumble on the kit as well as some of the pinging inherent therein. I use Sonar X1 which has Sonitus FX EQ. Im sure you can apply these freqs on any EQ that has Q and Gain. First things here is my track break downs for the kit. I wish I could take pics for you but I cant. Kick L/R trk1, Snare T & B trk2, HH trk3, Toms 1-3 trk4, toms 4-5 trk5, Ride trk6, Overhead and Ambience trk7, mono room and reverb trk8
I like having the 2 lower toms on a seperate track to really get them to stand out.
Kick drum trk drop EQ freq 2213Hz -18dB (sounded like a wood block to me) and freq 132Hz -9.5 or to taste for hollowness
Snare trk drop freq 1729Hz – 18dB (sounds like wood block again) and freq 296Hz -18dB for ringing
Hi Hats trk drop freq 979Hz -18dB for ringing and freq 489Hz -8.3 or to taste for hollowness
TomsAll trks drop freq 1479Hz -18dB (wood block) and drop freq 84Hz -9dB or to taste for rumble
I pretty much left the ride and crashes and the rest of the channels alone! Im using the stock kit that loads, which means I havent changed any of the sounds thru the drop options on the pieces of the kit.
You can hear these setteings in action on my link, the top 3 song are all using this EQ!
Please feel free to elaborate on this post! I hope this helps!

Hey, Jason nice stuff you got there…
I heard the first song and i have to say the mixing/production is great.
Only thing i found a bit low and hard to notice, was the kick drum.
Then again, maybe it’s me, wanting the kick to always stand out.
Great work nevertheless!
Cheers,
Gregg
Harry thx for posting to this , as I expected to get a larger response! Getting that kick just right is tough to me! Ill be the first to admit it! These are freq cuts so Im wondering what I could to to get the kick to stand out a little more? If its just a volume thing well shit I got that! What do you feel was lacking more the THUD or just volume?

I’m not sure, but i believe that it’s more about EQing, than plain Volume.
Usually, for the kicks only, i tend to start by using the “Kick_Metal_2” preset from EZMix and go from there.
They (kicks) may not sound good at soloing, but in the mix i get that flap and distinct kick sound, i’m looking for…
Of course, this is subjective and very much depended on the production mixing at hand, but a test won’t hurt either… 🙂
Cheers…
well I use the drum effects strip that came with Sonar x1 pro, maybe I should just start using the EZmix instead as Im not fully impressed with the drummer strip effects

Very helpful stuff. Thanks for taking the time to share your settings. It’s a huge benefit to others. Good to see people giving back to the community!
