I have a track that I want to send to a friend of mine in another state so he can lay down the drums on his E-drum kit and send me back the info, so I can then just pump it into Superior Drummer 2.0 and start messing with it. Is there anything in particular I need to know before doing this? Like, is there going to be a special way that the program or the E drums need to be set up before I can make this happen?
Hi,
if your friend has Superior 2, he most likely is using the ‘E-drum’ MIDI Preset or his own version of it.
The easiest way to make sure the MIDI he sends you plays back as recorded is that he also sends a Superior 2 Project file.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have Superior. And he doesn’t really do this sort of thing, he just uses his set to play live with electronic bands. Is this E-drum preset something I need to set him up with, or something I need to do on my end?
My 2 $
Honestly i would get him to get his playing/midi to his liking, send it to you and you can work it into your liking.
A yamaha or roland kits midi output (for example) will be very close to superiors mapping.
There maybe the odd double hit,You or he would need to have a good look and listen to the midi at any rate.
If the hats are reversed open/closed you can fix it,may take a little tweaking.Thats the only trouble i ever encountered.
Some times if it gets messy i separate the hats and redo half of it myself.Just keeping all the drum groove and the fills.YMMV.
Yes,
as juicy writes, you can just let him record his performance and then you load the ‘E-drum’ MIDI Preset in Superior 2 when you get it and most likely near all of it will map correctly. Perhaps the odd articulation, like the Floor Tom Rim, will need setting up but that’s done in no time.
