I don’t think the USB on your Yamaha is a MIDI out.  I think it’s for loading sounds into your module.  I could be wrong — I don’t know much about Yamaha gear.  My suggestion would be to get a MIDI-to-USB cable and run it from the MIDI out on your module to your PC.  Be sure to buy a decent one and use the most up-to-date drivers.  That cable should show up in TT Solo as a MIDI in device.

    Good luck.

Make sure Toontrack solo is updated as well.
As Steve writes, you select the MIDI interface in Toontrack solo.
Do not check the ‘E-drums’ MIDI Controller option, it is for EZdrummer users only.
When you get MIDI in to Toontrack solo and load Superior 2, you go to the Mapping page in Superior 2 and load the ‘E-drums’ MIDI Preset as a starting point. If it needs tweaking, do so until it feels right for you and save it as your own MIDI Preset.

man i just cant figure this out. i went out and bought a m audio uno interface, and it recognized the interface in tt solo. i think that i have to do more to the dtx III module, other than just turning midi on and local off. i didnt get the latest drivers yet. i figured that the drivers that came on uno cd rom, were suffice. can anyone tell me if there are any more settings in the extreme module, that i need to configure or change? on the yamaha drivers on my control panel do i need to set anything up in there aswell, cause a flashing 1 is there,w. ,2,3. then there is a 2 w. 1,2,3.,and so on. on my pc. if tt solo seesthe uno midi cable ,then why dont i get any sound on my e drums, from sd 2.0 yet? i guess i should let everyone know that i am leagaly blind, and my girlfriend is trying to figure this all out aswell. things really need to be as technical ,and broken down,or in english, lol. i feel like i have to graduate from a small school or something, just to get this working w. my e drums.on the dtx module it says that usb not ready. what am i missing here, other than being a audio genius.

You’re yamaha will most likely put out the midi notes as standard (why would you want to turn them off), so I guess the only issue I can see at the moment is, have you check what channels you’re sending and receiving on?

Does SD default to midi channel 10 when in TT solo?

What channel does the Yamaha module natively transmit on?

Silly question but you’ve connected the MIDI “out” (from the yamaha module) to the MIDI “in” on you’re new interface?

The other question to ask would be, are you able to tell whether superior is receiving notes (i.e. the drums are signalling they are being played) but maybe no sound?

    Kind regards

    D.

The Yamaha USB definitely does MIDI, I would download the latest drivers first and foremost

    http://download.yamaha.com/usb_midi/index.html

    From the manual:

Make sure that the USB TO HOST terminal
of the DTXTREME III is enabled.
Press the [UTILITY] button to enter the Utility mode,
then press the [F5] MIDI button followed by the [SF3]
    OTHER button

Set the MIDI IN/OUT parameter to “USB”
by using the [DEC/NO] button, [INC/YES]
    button or data dial.

Press the [ENTER/STORE] button to store
    this setting.

    From the Toontrack Solo manual

(OPTIONS) MIDI > MIDI device | allows you to specify the MIDI input devices to be
used. Simply select the appropriate MIDI interfaces and ports in the list (please refer
to your owner’s manual for port description) and confirm the selection.

Select the Yamaha USB midi device – I believe it should be port A (try channel 1 or 10 – I am not in front of the module now, I forget which is default on the module.)

You should now get sound when you hit the pads.

The last step is to go to the SD 2.0 mapping page and select edrums.

Be sure to use the latest version of SD 2.0 to get full Yamaha support.
