I have a DTXtreme III special…plus a few extras, and I love it!

All you do, is use the “stack/alt” mode to select the midi note numbers of each sound you want to trigger from the various positions on the pads/cymbals.
Then you download the latest firmware and usb drivers…to get the cymbal chokes to work properly.

There is of course some tweaking with the sensitivity and crosstalk settings, but it’s fairly easy to get right.

All pads/cymbals are 3 zone, so you can have both crosstick and rimshot on the snare.

Oil P – I am new DTXTREME III (and drummer for that matter) user. I havent found too much info anywhere on using the DTX with various VSTis. I use another product that has a download able keymap and sysex file for the DTX. I recently picked up SD 2.0 as I couldnt resist the cool sale (and wound up getting all the SDXs in the process!)

If you have any setup tips to share, I’d appreciate. Awesome setup you have. Cool pic!

My first tip would just be to get the pads mapped to the correct kitpieces, and start tweaking your settings in the DTX brain. (sensitivity, rejection etc)
It is a rather personal preference how you want it to respond, so that part has to be done to taste.

Set the latency setting on your software as low as it lets you.

Then I guess it’s mostly about asking when you run into problems you can’t handle…that’s what I do!

Happy drumming…S2.0 are some very…eh…addictive drums.

I use SD 2.0 and DFH and Metal Foundry with the DTXreme III Standard with no issues…….

Another easier way rather than mapping MIDI notes is to use the ‘Learn’ button in SD 2.0……..on my first Tom I had open hats for some reaon on the Rim………..select the Tom you want in SD 2.0 then click learn. Hit your Tom pad, or in my case Rim and away you go………….job done.

I recorded some mp3’s of me just playing DFH and sent it to a friend who runs a studio and he said that kind of tool will put him out of business ha ha

I found that setting the DTXtreme III trigger settings to the pre-defined ‘narrow’ setting allows for more accurate triggering in Superior Drummer. I also had to mess around with the hi-hat settings a lot in order to get the hats working naturally. However, it triggers very well and the DTXtreme III is a fantastic bit of kit in its own right.
