just did a little workshop on this
1. single zone cymbal as crash
2. you want to have “ridish” sounds when playing “on top” of the cymbal
3. create a a x ride
4. in my case from superior 1(legacy) library take one of the crashes starting to “crash” at lower level
4. create a new node
5. set the ride sounds velocity response from 0 to 50
6. set ride bell velocity response from 50 to 70
7.set the (“legacy” crash) to velocity response from 65 to 103 (to make it overlap(hey custom blend init?) with the sounds “before and after”)
8. set the crash velocity response from 100 to 127
9. select midi note learn ON THE NODE
10. hit the desired crash / do not forget to add the choke envelope (if avaiable on your pad) for each sound so it mutes ALL sound (ride/ride bell/”legacy” crash/ crash) when you “grab” the cymbal
11. conclusion :not bad compromise although for creating a second node (you might have two crashes) you CAN duplicate the node but (i hope i did not find it)
you cant swap the cymbals in the node (you wanna keep the velocities and curves for your other crash)
i added the picture so one can see the curves (wich work in my case pretty good) of the several velocities
PS: you might wanna skip the bell sound-can be annoying- and of course one has to fiddle with the settings coz all the pads
react differently (it is a little stone in there creating electricity) and last but not least pitch the “legacy” crash sound for perfect / better matching
hardware used:
