Part of my New Years strategy is to try to narrow down interests to areas and things that I actually may accomplish or at least make significant progress toward a goal.
I bought a used Trapkat thinking that I would learn how to play it or entice drummers over to my project studio for collaboration. In the meantime I have progressed more rapidly with my keyboard drumming skills and I haven’t collaborated with a single drummer here in my project studio.
I’m wondering if I can lay hands on a smaller scale drum brain/trigger to midi converter and then use the hi hat controller and kick trigger along with a keyboard controller. My concern is mainly the hihat with the closed, open and hatstrig articulations receiving midi data via the keyboard and the foot splash, closed foot and hatsctrl getting data from the drum brain and hihat controller. I don’t think that will work.
The alternative would be to use the hihat footcontoller for CC only and use a keyboard CC pedal input.
I’m also guessing that any kick trigger to midi converter would work for kick drum purposes since there are limited articulations available.
Anyone try this before?
