Hey guys, so this may be a little off topic, I’m not sure exactly where I should ask this questions.
First off I have an older computer with a AMD xp 2600 (I think), 2 gb of ram (yeah I need to upgrade). I’m using Sonar 8 with an older FirePod and have a Roland TD-4S (amongst other things). I’ve played with the sounds on the brain of the TD-4S but they really don’t give the control I would like, especially when recording drums.
I’m looking to get either DFH or SD 2 (not sure if I want to spend the extra cash for SD2) and use the drum set as a midi controller for DFH or SD2. (correct me if I’m wrong but I’m fairly certain this can be done)
My question is this. How should I go about connecting the Roland kit. I know it only has Midi out but that should be all i need right? Should I run Midi to my FirePod and use that to run the signal into Sonar 8 or should I use a Midi to USB cable and go straight into the computer?
Any help, pointers, suggestions, flames, or whatever would be much appreciated.
the Firepod will be more than adequate for the purpose of controlling Superior Drummer in real-time. You do need a fairly robust computer though, so depending on your playing style (busy or laid back) and the number of FX you wish to apply ‘in the box’ this may be where your setup will fall short – although it is by no means to say it won’t be up to the task.
