The new edrum preset will have positional snare setup as default….whereas the downloadable one didn’t. If you have a module that is set up for positional sensing you may be hearing the edge samples when you play the edge of your snare whiich is why it sounds different……If you have a module that is not capable of positional sensing then in theory you should not notice a difference in the snare between the old and new edrum presets.

I thought that might have something to do with it, but on the TD20 if you select Instrument, Control, MIDI and then Positional Control OFF for both head and rim, should you be able to hear a difference in sound, more like it was previously? If so, I don’t think I hear any changes with it on or off while the new edrum preset is selected.

I found a way to restore the original sound by removing the CC16 from the box in the articulations window and entering D1 in the box for the Center. Is there a way to get similar results by making some change on the TD20 instead, so no changes are needed in S2?

sorry I don’t understand the question…

note 38 (D1) is going to snareTrig. if no CC (16) is received then the center articulation will be played all the way through. If CC is received then the sound will depend on the value. Just as intended.

… or perhaps, I understand the question. If your track is already recorded but you wish to do away with the variations brought in by the positional sensing then no, changing the settings in S2 as you did will be required.

Well, a better way might be to select the ‘edge’ articulation and set the population of layers to ‘0 0 0’, this will have the added benefit to save you RAM.

I tried an experiment and recorded a snare part using the TD-20 with positional sensing on, positional sensing off and setting the Snare CC to None. There was no difference in the sound while monitoring during recording, and all three sounded like positional sensing was On. It also doesn’t make any difference if I deleted the CC16 information from a track after it’s recorded. So apparently there isn’t anything that can be set differently on the TD-20, or if there is, I’m not aware of it.

Then I tried your suggestion to set the layers of the Edge Articulation to 0, which works. When set to 0 prior to recording, the sounds I heard while monitoring are the same as if there was no positional sensing, which is even better for me. Thanks.

well setting a population of 0 as above means in effect there simply cannot be any edge sample triggered. That has nothing to do with the CC type and values received nor what the sampler is trying to perform with it (so you don’t misconstrue the change suggested in S2 for what it isn’t).

It also doesn’t make any difference if I deleted the CC16 information from a track after it’s recorded.

I think the problem might be that the last CC value received corresponded to a ‘edge’ sound then because no CC16 means no positional sensing (but it will be locked to last value until the next session).

From your report I would expect however all CC values sent by the module to be over 65, if that’s the case… when you look at the (CC) data on the track, is that what you observe? that does not sound like a normal behaviour on the drum brain side in any case.
